Description

The student will embark on the dynamic use of type to develop personality in movie titles to a commercial product for marketing. The student will adventure into the creative world of type and learn the power and structure of letterforms, layout, and design. This is an exciting creative journey for the student to develop practical typographic designs that have personality and communicate more effectively in the industry. This is an on-ground course. Course Outline

Module 1 Importance of Design Foundations in the Visual Arts

To design dynamic layouts that are structured well, the student will learn the need for the Design Foundations in the visual arts. These fundamental concepts will help the student’s creativity to flourish in the arena of ideas.

Module 2 Anatomy of Type

This module explores the Anatomy of Type. The students will learn how to unlock and identify each stroke in a letterform that can be used as a symbol for visual communication. Understanding the Anatomy of Type will help the student to breathe life into their typographic designs.

Module 3 Personal Monogram

The student will learn how to use letterforms to create a unique monogram that reflects their character and personality. The student will learn how to reshape the anatomy of a letterforms in their initials into a distinctive design that captures their individual identity. The concepts leaned in this module will provide the students monogram to be more memorable and marketable.

Module 4 Personal Monogram (cont.)

Using Adobe Illustrator as the software of choice, the students will develop their monograms digitally. Students will embark on the power of Adobe Illustrator for creating vector graphic art and symbols that can be enlarged and reduced in size without losing the digital resolution of the image.

Module 5 Grid Design

The students will learn how to develop grid design structures in their compositions. These grid structures are the building blocks that will help the students to enhance their overall visual impact. The grids will help provide clarity and well-organized structure to the layout of information and story the students is trying to convey.

Module 6 Font Attributes

In this module the students will explore how to use the font style attributes to create color, texture, and pattern in their digital grid structures. This will provide the student a clear visual idea of how their compositions have more visual impact and potential that goes beyond mere type or text on a page.

Module 7 Motion, Emotion and Promotion

For exciting simple marketing strategies, the student will learn how to use a letterform as the main graphic device in a product design. The student will learn how a product captures their attention. While delving into this exercise, they will learn the power of MOTION, EMOTION, and PROMOTION of the diverse products they are exploring.

Module 8 Finale

This module is exciting because we get to see all the student has learned in this course regarding the anatomy of type, grid structure, and how to capture personality in a product story. This final project is a culmination of the students’ knowledge and skill that will demonstrate their mastery of Typography, Layout and Design.
